Rent allowance query

I'm currently separated from my wife since March. I'm trying to claim rent allowance for my current address but one of the items I was told to get from the welfare officer is a form from Wood Quay saying that I'm on the social housing list. When I went in to get one the wouldn't process it because I told them that my name is still on the deed of the marital home. I was told that I can't qualify for housing because of this and therefore can't get the form. I don't care about qualifying for the housing but it seems unfair to class me as a homeowner to a house that I can't visit anymore and don't / can't make any payments for. Do I have any chance of getting my rent allowance?
