I was interviewed for a software development job about 4 weeks ago and the interview went quite well. I was called back for a second interview, where they did a more in depth technical review of my skills which also went quite well. In the second interview we also discussed salary and they made me an offer. They said that I was one of three people being considered for two positions in their company.

A week later they gave me a call to tell me that things were going slowly and that they wanted to keep in touch so that I wasn't being left in the dark about it and they told me that I was almost certainly going to be getting the job and that they would be in touch next week about it.

That phone call was a week and a half ago. I thought maybe with the bank holiday weekend they might have been busy or something, but I'm just wondering if I should maybe give them a call and tell them that there is a banker wanting confirmation of whether I have the job or not because he's waiting to OK a loan or something. This isn't necessarily true but would it be a good way of finding out if I actually have the job or not with out seeming too pushy or desperate?

Just give them a ring and see how things are. Put it in such a way that you're just following up to see if they had come to a decision in relation to the job.

I have been in the same situation and asked myself the same question. Do give them a call, not only will you get an update but it will also show to them that you are enthuastic about the job and have initiative to pick up the phone. Good luck :)
