Oil Central Heating - No hot water

First, apologies if this tread has been posted already (I did not read all the previous posts).

I have oil fired central heating which when switched on should also heat up water to all the taps in my house (it isnt). I do have an emersion heater which I use during the spring/summer, which I am having to switch on at the moment.

My boiler is a Firebird and has 3 rocker switches (On/off; pump; and timer).

I did have some plumbing work done during the summer whereby the plumber had to access the hotpress. Now he may have adjusted handles/levers and not replaced them in their original setting. (There are two red 'handles' connected to pipes - does anyone know if they need to be in a certain place).

Appreciate any advice given before I go down other avenues.

There should be two pipes going into the coil of your hot water cylinder - it is possible that there is a lever on one of these pipes and it is closed in the horizontal position - if that is the case just try placing it vertically and see if that works

    Thanks kerrypluming for your reply.

The levers are in-line with the pipes but still no joy. I think I will check with one of my neighbours to see if they have the same problem. Otherwise will get a professional in to have a look. :)

pic of inside the hot press would help, could be a motorised valve somewhere or pipestat

Is the central heating working? if it is then we're looking at valve/tap turned off or air in the system..... let us know and we'll point you in the right direction.

If the central heating isnt working:

I'm assuming you've checked to see if you have oil in the tank,
turn switch beside timer to constant then go to boiler.

Is the boiler making noise? if it isnt:

On firebirds you will normally have an oil boiler/burner outside (in outhouse/shed etc.), on top of this will be a round thermostat. and beside that a cap that screws off by hand anticlockwise, under this cap is a reset button, if you press it and hear a click then you know it was just the reset, i.e system overheated).

If that doesnt work, and you've oil, the next thing to check is bleeding the boiler, i.e. making sure oil is getting through and theirs no air in there.

Again, let us know, and if you can ge the name/number from the boiler thiswill help, usually somthing like firebird 40, 60, 90 etc.

could also be a blocked coil or no water in the header tank

Central Heating is working. Plenty of oil in tank.

My Firebird boiler is a Firebird-S. No numbers except for 50 - 90 (which I have taken to mean the temperature control).

The only equipment outside is the Oil tank. Sorry if I sound a bit vague, but I no nothing about heating/plumbing.

    Thanks

If you can post some pics that would be a really good help. Could be something like a motorized valve closed, or stuck closed

    Eukeka!! :)

Problem solved. I had a brainwave - I had an idea that the hot-water pump might be kapput. Called in the plumber I always use, told him what I thought and I was right. He changed the pump and now I have my hot water.

Thanks to all with their suggestions.
