    Hi all,

my GF is out of work and claiming the dole, she recently got a part time job in a creche work 3-4 mornings a week, total 10-12 hours work per week. she let the dole people know she was working and they have now docked her dole by the same amount she earns in the creche approx 90 euro i think.

is this right? i heard they would dock something but didnt realise they would dock it all. i know no one has a right to expect money off the state but its hardly a incentive to make people go back to work (i know people shouldnt need an incentive)

ive never claimed the dole so i havent a clue how it works,

Sounds right, if you work 3 days, you get paid 3 days dole. Dole is 6 day week.

    €196 divided by 6 = €32.66 a day.

If your girlfriend works 4 days or more its classed as fulltime. No dole.

This is correct, she is now on what is known as "casual" JSA or JSB (which ever one she is on). The way it works is that for each day you work (excluding Sundays which you must declare but won't be counted as a working day in terms of deducting you payment), one sixth of your dole is docked. Generally if you work in excess of 3 days (that is 4-6 days), you will get nothing that week. In fairness I think if you are earning a certain amount, the docking is fair, but on the other hand little incentive as you say if your wages are crap. Still, that is the system. Also, even if she works only one hour on a given day, it counts as a full day in the eyes of social welfare.

I agree. It seems fair to dock what she's earning. But I wonder do they dock, what you get into your hand from your employer, or the whole tax inclusive amount?
