Dia daoibh, Since leaving Ireland to study abroad for a few years, learning Irish has become very important to me. Where I'm living at the moment has no Irish speaking group and I was hoping you guys would have an idea of what the best alternative starting point to learning might be? A book perhaps? Thanks

Learning Irish by Mícheál Ó Siadhail
Great book, based on Conamara dialect, since you learned Irish in school in should be ok, I wouldn't recommend it to absolute beginners

Teach yourself Irish by Diarmuid Ó Sé & Joeseph Sheils
A book for absolute beginners which covers many day to day topics, it is done in the Official Standard (Caighdeán Oifigiúil) and has plenty of exercises for you to practise

Also plenty of Free stuff on the web too
