Charging your laptop

We had this discussion at home and really the same goes for mobile phones, nintendo ds, ipods etc.

When charging your laptop I always thought it was better to let the battery run out as much as possible( say to before it powers off) and then charge it up . But when its fully charged to take the charger out because (and this is my dodgey explanation ) you only get say 1000 charges on it and if you start to charge it without letting the battery go down you are wasting the battery and charges and so wrecking it.

Does anyone know for certain what to do?

    Thanks

If i was using a laptop for a prolonged time plugged in i would remove the battery, as heat affects batteries quite a bit. And as far as im aware you're right about the batteries having a number of charge and recharge cycles. But in the real world with a laptop that gets used a good bit on the charger and off, i would just leave the battery in the laptop. It just becomes too much of a hassle removing the battery every time it's full. And you'll eventually knock out the plug and BAM it's dead!
There's no need to remove the charger when it's full and thus letting it discharge again. There's no point in doing that

for general browsing, downloading etc etc i run off battery, but once i load up a game its straight to the charger, and if going to be at it for a while then will take the battery out

It's one of those things which everyone has an opinion on, but few are really sure!

I keep mine plugged about 50% of the time. Of the other 50%, I probably let it run down about half the time.
