Mains electric fence.... in the middle of nowhere???

Does anyone know how much ESB would charge to have a ocnnection to powerline for electric fence in remote field. There is an ESB pole nearby but I'm sick of horses breaking thorugh weak hedges and often find that battery fence isn't enough of a deterrent....

Is the process straightforward? How do I go about it?

There are some great solar fences on the market at the moment. I explore one of these instead of paying €1000 for a connection and a bill on top of that.

I'd be interested in hearing more on these. I have a similar situation to the op.

Have any of ye used them? What the maintainence like with them?

I have a pole in the field also so an ESB connection is an option, albeit a costly one.

Had a similar situation myself some time back, bought a small wind turbine with 2 deep cycle batteries and an inverter. Not the cheapest option maybe but handy for very remote locations.

I gave about €450 a few years a get for a meterless supply about €350 to a sparky to install the socket and circuit breakers etc, and supply the cert. it costs about €6 every 2 months (€30 in total per year approx) in ground rent. no units to be paid for.

Ask your district esb office ( look up phone book for details) about getting a meterless supply for a farm electric fence, don't know if they still offer the service or not.

I have a problem similar to this. I am building new sheds on a completely new site. Obviously there is no elec at the moment. The costs for new elect are approx 2000 per pole and i need maybe 3 or 4 poles.

I have not got this money.

Does anybody know of something that would do for a few years until i could afford such connection costs. All i'll need is lights really, it is only for some sucklers.

Aldi had a great deal on genny's a few weeks ago. Pop in and look. They might still be there. I bought one a few years ago from them for a remote shed. Works fine for lights etc. The one thet had a few weeks ago was more powerful.

We bought two Aldi/Lidl gennys, both died.

I'd go looking for a second hand Honda in good nick if money is tight.

Sorry, not sure on what power they should be for the job.
