Reason i ask is iBood have what seems like a good kit available today which i was considering suggesting to a friend of mine who has an ipad and was looking for something just like this to extend his wi-fi to the other side of his house.

its pretty cheap so if it worked at all with the ipad it would be great, but last thing i want is for him to buy it based on my suggestion, then to find it doesnt work with the ipad ...

any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks

I don't think it does work at all. My iPhone 4 does not see 5G network, but any access point should have both 5G and 802.x, and they are transparent, despite different SSID, so you should be OK. On my iPhone I can see network resources available on both signals.
    Hope it helps.
