Open University and JB

    Hey guys.

I've been in receipt of JB for about 4 months now but have been out of work for 7. It has always been my plan to return to college but that won't happen until next year. In the meantime I would like to do an Open University course that is 9 months in duration and then (hopefully) attend a degree course in UCC in September 2011.

The fees for the OU course will be around the €1500 mark and I am completely relying on my JB payments to pay these off gradually. From what I have read, the BTEA is not an option for me.

What I'm looking to know is, do I need to tell Social Welfare if I do the course?

You do need to tell them but it won't have any bearing on your claim.
