My circulating pump runs constantly as soon as (oil) heating is turned on. Is this normal set up or should it switch off and on with burner?
Would this be any more efficient and is it worth doing. Its been running ok for past 8 yrs.
Pump is mounted in outside boiler casing.
    Any feedback appreciated.

It's normal for the pump to run while the burner is off. When the water being circulated by the pump cools down then the burner will re-ignite.

Obviously, when the system is shut down (ie timer/main switch/room stat off) the the pump should also be off.
