Just booked a flight and for one person put the short name down, so say tom for Thomas or Jim for James, they don't mind that do they? 3 letters at the end of what I have put down.

It's supposed to match the passport exactly. You can try ringing them and checking if you can have it changed for free or you might not get through at the airport.

    Yes, indeed.

Security regulations stipulate that the name on the ticket has to match exactly that on the pax passport.

The airline risks a steep fine if immigration at the destination does not like the mismatch.

I thought Tom for Thomas was OK - I was under the impression that if it is a common abreviation for a name it is fine, but if its something like Neil instead of Cornelius, or Jack for John Paul you could be in bother. Maybe its changed.

    Hi there,
I've just had the same problem. I've the same name as my dad so booking with Ryanair to Liverpool caused problems. The computer wouldn't accept it until I put down my middle name, which is now it is on the passport. His middle name is also the same but is not on his passport.
    regards
