Bye bye walkman. Maybe everyone could re-popularise the walkman and start wearing tight shorts and leg warmers again.

I liked the way you could make mixed tapes of your favorite songs, but I don't think i'll miss them tbh. Not when you got an ipod

More than 30 years of portable media. Went full circle from coolest thing ever to what moron is still buying a goddamn walkman? That said minidisc players were far cooler than mp3 players. They just were. If you weren't there you wouldn't understand.

Damn straight. Loved my mini-disc player. Had one in the car too.

Few years back a site was selling walkmans as ipod cases...but sony shut them down. So Screw sony I say! Maybe there'd be a demand for walkman cases if they let the market go!

I thought Sony made mp3 players under the name Walkman these days?
I've never been able to understand the point or popularity of iPods.

Ah, consigned to the realm of nostalgia and pop-culture history? Sounds like they're now perfect for use by hipsters (ironically of course)

Ipods are handy if you're a mac user with some knowledge.
Other than that they're just an mp3 player using a different format.

    Also, I miss my walkman.
I liked the one with auto reverse or whatever it was called. You didn't have to take the tape out to play the other side.

They may have been cooler, but they were still a pain in the arse. I remember buying one for recording college lectures and if the batteries (regular AA) went flat at any time during the lecture the entire recording would be lost. So you had to make sure to use full batteries for every single lecture. You'd be on tender-hooks worrying the thing was gonna clap out for some or other reason. It was a very expensive gadget too IIRC.

I'll take a mp3 player (esp on with video) over minidisc anyway. Lot of things I look back fondly on but that wasn't one of them. Certainly in terms of nostalgia my walkman would also beat the minidisc.

I'd take my walkman over my Discman anyday. Had a cheap ass walkman and it was great, had a relatively decent Discman and it skipped and scratched almost every CD if you took so much as a leisurely stroll.

I let the whole mini disc thing pass me by, probably because I coudln't afford a minidisc player, loads of discs and a new stereo with a minidisc port. Was quite glad of that as they were so short lived and replaced by much more functional and friendsly MP3 players.

I loved my walkman(s) - had so many of them down through the years. My last walkman I still have somewhere.

I used the walkman right up until about 2005 or 2006 with the last few years carrying a discman too and having the pick between walkman or discman. After that I used the phone for music on the go. Got my first ipod this year and I love it. All my music is there in the one device along with some music videos, movies, games, photos, and lots more.

I remember when I was younger listening to the radio at home for hours, with a blank tape ready, trying to catch my favourite songs to record. Thank god for itunes now.
