Mixing into mix buss compression

Does anybody (or everybody!) here use mix buss compression and mix into it, rather than finishing a mix and then slapping a mix buss compressor on after?

Just wondering as I find my tracks ended up being pretty quiet compared to other things I hear posted up, I don't use any mix bus compression at the moment.

Interesting article on using it here: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/may08/articles/mixcompression.htm

Mybe im picking you up wrong but do you mean having a compressor on the master as you build the track?

I do this.i have a compressor and a limiter on the whole time.im pretty sure there are alot of people who say not to do it but its kinda working for me until i get something better

i always mix into a buss compressor as it shapes your mix as you go. slapping one on at the end can totallly change the balance and tone of your mix.

    Master buss here has:-

    EQ(Final Rumble removal / Sparkle)>Buss Comp(For Tone/Shaping)>Loudness/Limiter(Lifting)

2 or 4 ratio - taking about 4+ db off and a fastish release.
