Go to Lidl. Get a automatic polisher for €20. Go mad.

Prefix those sentences with 'I want to' and thats all the motivation you will need.

I washed mine Saturday. It was lightin'

I drive for a living so you can imagine how dirty it was as I havent washed it in 8 weeks or so.

I had to get a bug n tar sponge to the mirrors and front bumper. They came up a treat.

By this evening it will be destroyed. Soon to drive to Dublin airport.

if you don't wash it every week you'll end up with a ****e looking car after you wash it the next time, then you'll have to polish it etc.

When getting my car washed at the local garage, I select the "wash & wax" option, so it stays clean longer, and the rain helps clean it better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 827 ✭✭✭VinnyTGM

If you keep the wax topped up, washing it will be a lot easier. I wash mine every week be it hail, rain, or shine.

Do you select the 'swirl' option aswell, oh wait that comes as standard.

I hate when my car is dirty.. annoys the hell out of me.. Wash it every week regardless of weather.. Top up the wax every 4 weeks or so.. the wax really helps keep it clean for longer..

I really dislike my car being dirty - it looks so good clean and shiny. It's just a matter of being car-proud

Mine gets done at least once a week, hail, rain, snow or shine. Wheels get done usually twice a week as theyre polished alloy, keeping the wheels clean makes the whole car look clean.

I can wash, rinse and dry the car in about 22 minutes. :)

So when you waash the car when it is raining, do you dry the car, or how do you avoid water marks?

Well wouldn't wash it in the rain.. but to dry it off.. 1-2 microfiber towels..

Your like my brother and uncle then. My brother's is navy so it doesn't show too much. My uncle's used to be white though ;)

I agree. My car hasnt been washed in about a year, and has done around 30k Kms. Its black and still looks fairly clean. I find that by driving really fast when it rains, it washes off most of it :pac:

My god have a bit of pride and dont be so lazy.
I wash my car once a week myself with a hose and sponge . It does not cost anything just takes about a half an hour and a bit of elbow grease. But i suppose no point in having a shower either so same principal its all about the way people perceive you. Dirty car=dirty person haha just my two cents :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

    Fair enough.

    Although:
    1. Taking a half an hour to wash a car may not cost anything (although that equipment costs) and you'll never get that half hour back again - every week.
    2. Washing ones self has inherent health benefits that washing a car does not equal.

It's not about pride or laziness. Its about priorities and determining that washing ones car is pointless in this country.

I keep it waxed, so when it needs a wash I break out the foam...

What are you talking about?I'm sure the majority of people who post in here have an interest and take pride in how their car appears.Just cause you don't have a fancy new car doesn't mean you can't have your car looking great.

Pointless in this country ? how exactly is it pointless may i ask?? You have a dirty car . it rains and the car looks remotely clean. Stops raining and the car is dirty again with streaks of dirt going down it. Even if you dont have that half hour to spare just get a shammy and when the car is wet shammy it . Not too hard for the lazier individuals out there:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I have a great interest in how my car performs, how it looks is of at best marginal interest to me. Bought it in Jun 2008, i'd say it's had four or five washes so far. Mind you, it did get waxed twice.:)

If you dont care how it looks just get a old brown fiesta and throw a 2 ltr turbo into it :p:p:p:p:p:p

The previous poster said: " My good, have a bit of pride and don't be lazy" I was responding that the reason I dont wash my can is not because of a lack of pride of laziness.
In my very humble opinion (and I know many disagree, I wouldnt expect it any other way), a car is a piece of equipment designed for getting me from A to B. No matter how much I spend on the car or how hard I clean it, its main aim is still to get me from A to B.

Washing ones car is pointless in this country because it rains so much. That rain makes the road dirty. Get stuck behind a car or a truck for any length of time and that car you washed over the weekend is dirty again. Thats why its pointless.
    Again, its not about laziness.

In a dry climate the roads get dusty and your car gets just as dirty if not worse, so your point is moot.

Don't shammy the car if it hasn't been washed, you'll do damage to the paint, always ensure the car has been fully cleaned before drying.

Why would you be "proud" of your car? Its not like its anything special.
Dirty cars look better for the majority of cars anyway, except perhaps a nice sports car.

For me the interior, all glass, mirrors & lights have to stay clean.

The majority of cars being talked about on boards are not worth being proud about, irrelevant of how much they cost you.

No you are right I don't work in marketing cars. Though I am involved in the automotive industry.

Cars are a consumer object, not something you should place too much pride in unless of course you built it yourself or something.

Just my belief, but you're welcome to your own.

    That's fair enough.

Myself I just want to look after it as I spent quite abit of money on it. Tbh my car is relatively speaking a piece of cr*p and not worth mentioning, but I still pay alot of attention to it.

But the car looking better dirty is a strange one mate!:pac:

Using the foam lance, I can wash and rinse the car in 15 minutes. Twice a year I'll polish and every now and again I'll give it a coat of wax. It's not exactly a drain on my time.

Again, rolleyes are a weak argument. I've a post count of almost 14,000 and I hardly ever wash my car.

Perhaps there is a correlation between post count and car cleanliness.

If I was trying to flog a Merc on adverts I wouldn't be on here bragging about how little time I spent caring for it. ;)
