    Racist islamophobe nonsense.

Looking through the comments, it's shocking to see how many people buy this rubbish. I do think it boils down to racism TBH.

OP, if you actually got fooled by this video (and the whole birther movement), you suck.

I despair for humanity when people swallow this cut-up youtube clip. Whats more, I despair for the Right when they cling to this birth certificate nonsense for two and a half years.

I don't agree. Would have the same insane accusations about him if he was white and had a German/French/Irish etc father.

I think that suggestion is dangerously close to ''disagree with black guy = you must be racist''

Erm... so if a white guy was President, loads of Americans would claim he should be removed from office because he is not from America (despite loads of proof he IS)? I think not.

I'm not saying that many people have legitimate qualms about Obama as President, but there is no denying that there is a racist undercurrent in the "birther" movement.

I don't remember, did the Kennedy's have to tolerate this birth certificate crap or did people just sit happily with the Irish thing?

I can't say I agree with you Smoke.

They didn't have an Irish parent. I mean I think his actual proper Irish ancestors came over during the famine. More importantly they didn't live in an internet age where conspiracy nuts had such handy methods of communication. So no point even comparing.

Say Obama was white, with a Polish father he hadn't had much contact with, also spent some of his early years abroad, do you really think republican hardliners wouldn't be coming up with all kinds of stories to discredit him/his presidency?

Take my example I gave in response to Overheal for a Polish father.

No doubt amongst some members, but there's a racist undercurrent in many looney movements. I just felt your comment that it boils down to racism overlooks the fact that people would support this crap simply because they do not like Obama in general, not because they're racist.

The onion actually did a nice piece on this -

    @Bottle of Smoke

Do you believe that Obama fulfills the required level of citizenship to have become the president of the United States?

Do you believe that Obama is a Muslim?

Personally I oppose many of Obama's policies, I find that in retrospect his election promises to make up one of the most elaborate con games that election politics have ever seen.

However I do not want to share a single opinion with the people who make videos like this, their lies sicken me. They bring the focus of politics toward the issue of origin and ethnicity, away from the issues that actually affect the lives of Americans.
I know I shouldn't form my opinions to be the inversion whatever the loudest idiot proclaims but it's tempting, deeply tempting.

I don't think I implied otherwise if that's what you meant

That's all fine. I was just trying to make the point that I don't think birthers are peddling this crap exclusively due to racism, but because they're the type of people who will stoop to smear tactics to attempt to discredit the person they don't like for whatever reason

How so? He promised Health Reform, and then promptly intoroduced the largest package of social reform since Johnson.

He promised tighter regulation for Wall St., and then brought in the most far reaching measures since FDR.

He promised to reach across the aisle in a non-partisan manner, and done so almost to the cost of his health reforms, only to have the Republicans slap his hand away.

I think too many people expected Obama to be some form of political demi-God, and are disappointed now that he hasn't cured AIDS, solved world hunger, and eliminated poverty in the 19 months he's been in office. But if you look at his achievements in a more objective manner, he's done more to implement his policies than any president for decades. Not a bad record in my opinion.

When the Republicans claim the house in November, they are going to gridlock all legislative iniatives for 2 years. Nothing will be moved forward on the economy, they will demand a crushing austerity programme, unemployment will rise, the dole will expire, millions will be destitute, and the Republicans will choose that imbecile Sarah Palin in 2012. Obama will win a crushing landslide on a scale not seen since 1964, the democrats will reclaim the house and senate, and after 4 years of the most dramatic progressive agenda since Lyndon Johnson, Obama will be considered the greatest and most progressive President since FDR.

    I ain't nothing if not a visionary.

But they won't say what they'll cut. I think there will be a stand off where the obstructionism will become more obvious.
I don't think Palin will run in 2012, she's making too much easy money talking to vegetables, but I do think Obama will win in 2012.
