A friend of mine was hit in the eyes by some scumbag with a green laser pen while driving though Clondalkin on Friday night. Luckily he was driving slow as he was coming up to a red light! You can imagine what might of happened if he have been driving at speed! What kind of scum is being bred in this kip. Risking causing an accident, possibly death for a laugh!

I guess its a good idea to report this sort of thing to the gards. Not really a clever thing to be doing, could damage somebodys sight

I heard the pen lasers have a low watt power output, but they do dazzle your sight for a few seconds, enough time to crash or hit something!
A five years prison sentence for it, like the British have for using them on Helicopters or Airliners!

He might "of" mistaken the words 'of' and 'have'?

I served a chap a few weeks ago who had a big white bandage over his eye. I asked him what happened, turns out hes an airline pilot and some scumbag was aiming a high output laser at the plane from the ground. The beam caught him in the eye and he required surgery to correct the damage. Incredible.

A few laser guided missiles (small ones! ;-) ) released from the aircraft could home right into them quite easily!

Seriously though, targeting an aircraft on approach is crazy carry on.

Ban them like they did with fireworks. They are good fun if you have a cat or a dog, they won't stop chasing the beam.

Fireworks have never been legal here yet they where always easy to get. The 2 year old €2000 fine for possession has also failed, it was like a war zone last night. Was much quieter over the last 2 years. Can hardly wait for next week.

The low powered ones are relatively harmless and fun, the powerful ones are dangerous in the wrong hands and too easy for the wrong hands to get them.

Or might "have" confused the motors forum for the English forum.

I'm very impressed with their aiming skills to get it directly in the eyes of a car driver/airline pilot!

Why would he post about someone getting lasered in the eye whilst driving in the English forum?

    :pac:

Sweet Jesus can we get back on topic.

These bloody laser pens/pointers are getting too bloody common. You don't have to point one directly at the eye. There is a very good chance that if you aim towards the face that at some stage you will hit the eye, dazzling/blinding the target.

Funnily enough this is getting a huge amount of attention in the Aviation world.

I believe the best thing to do if blinded by a laser while driving is to close your eyes and accelerate towards the source.

How do you know where the source is if your eyes are closed?!
