Weightwatchers meals

    Hi everyone, for the past few weeks i have been using the weightwatchers meals like the lassagne, spag bol etc and serving them with a large portion of varied vegetables. i use this as part of my main meal everyday.im just wondering does anybody else do this and is it seen as a healthy alternative or is it just supposed to be used on occasions when you dont have time to cook?

    There was a study which found that people eating ready meals lost more weight than people who cooked their own organic food - portion size is set with the with ready meals, you can't nibble a bit extra.

    So that bit means it could work well. My reservation is that the WW ready meals tend to be high in carbs and low in protein and essential fats.

    OP - Well done on having the ready meal with varied veggies. From a weight loss perspective, id agree with Eileen in the fact that its portioned and the portions are small so if you eat that with the veggies as your main meal and stay within allocated points etc - you will lose weight as you will be shifting the energy balance in your favour.

    Nutritionally - next to none. But that's a different kettle of fish. It would be best IMO to not rely on them for your main meal everyday and maybe a few days during the week cook if you can or on a Sunday night make a huge portion that will last for dinners for a few nights

    I agree with this. If you maybe one day a week when you have time, cook a few different dishes (maybe invest in a weight watchers cook book, i love mine), portion and freeze them. Write the points value, date you made it and what it is on the container before you freeze. That way for the following week or 2 you have varied, ready portioned and easy to prepare meals that you can treat just like the ready meals, only would probably be better nutritionally. Also could work out a lot cheaper for you in the long run.

    A lot of the time the WW products are no better than a similar branded product.

    Birdseye make a lot of them, Heinz do too. Next time you see the WW beans, check the nutritional data on it, then check a tin of heinz in the same size.
    No difference at all, except the price

    Hi thank you for all your replies :) i just find it so hard being a student to cook healthy meals in the evening after a long day in college.to be honest money is a factor also.i just dont know simple healthy recipes for cooking meat that i can have with my large portion of veg. has anybody any suggestions for doing things with chicken breasts or fish?or anything that is healthy and delicious?

    Meat and chicken are both easy. If it's steak, grill it under a grill or on a grill pan. If it's diced, brown it on a non-stick pan then add whatever ingredients you want to make it stir-fry or stew or whatever.

    Chicken can be cooked as a full breast, either baked in the oven for 25-30 minutes, or sliced and cooked on a non-stick pan for about five minutes. Or diced and stirfried.

    Flat fish is best fried on a pan, steaks and darnes can be baked for about 20 minutes. Use whatever herbs or spices you fancy.
