Hi all, I want to book a skiing holiday (have never been before). Would Saalbach in Austria for a week from Jan 8th be ok? i.e. would there be snow?
Or can anyone recommend anywhere else? which ideally has cheap flights and is picturesque with good food and nightlife and reasonably priced.

    Thanks

Saalbach is one of the more expensive Austrian resorts but htere is plenty of cheap options available in the town

January will be fine for snow they are pretty high there and have decent snowmaking where required.

Some cracking runs and two great ski schools, and a reasonably short transfer to the resort.

Plenty of options for night life would reccomend Apres in the GoatStall in Hinterglim and getting a taxi back for a few Euro after. Place is banging by 6 most nights.

    Other Options would be

    Mayrhofen

    Lermoos

    St Johan

    Westendorf

Saalbach is by far my favourite resort in Austria. Nice town, reasonably priced, great slopes, great après ski and all roads lead to home :)
We've stayed in Hotel Panther now for two years running - great hotel, reasonably priced and the staff are lovely. The pool is fantastic, it's outside. And if you're doing skischool - the Furstauer skischool have a great deal with the Intersport in town for a rental/school combo.
And, not to be missed (one of the most hilarious nights of my life) the Spielberg Haus - it's on Tues nights I think, your skischool will organise it.

Hi, just wondering where the gondola station to the mountain is in the town. We're trying to book accomadation in town within walking distance of it. Also, is there somewhere to store equipment overnight near the station?

Trevor there are approx 4/5 options to get out of the village every day the hotel Panther has one at the front and back door and 2 others withing 5 minutes work. Unless you are well outside the village you will be no more than 10 minutes walk from a lift.

The town is surrounded by Gondolas and chairlifts as olaola said all roads lead to home. This is a ski in ski out town.

TBH, you'll be spoilt with convenience. We're going to Ischgl this year and some of the gang (whose first time was Saalbach) don’t understand why a: you can't ski into the village and b: the lifts aren't right in the middle of the village.

Hi am thinking of holidaying in Saalbach this September - everything seems lovely but don't see that it has many bars. Does anyone know what nightlife is like there or if bars/lifts etc.are still open in September

Quick glance suggests that they charge per journey on the lifts that are running during the summer, which seems to be until October.
