Am I drinking too much coffee?

Hi all. I started a new job recently and it's become a real social thing for my colleagues and I to get a cup of coffee three or four times a day. Until now I rarely drank coffee really, just the odd cappuchino here and there. But now I think I'm getting to like my coffee a little too much and am starting to feel out of sorts if I don't have it everyday. Is 3 or 4 coffees too much? I never go over that. Should I switch to decaf maybe? Ye're probably laughing at me but I'm a bit of a health freak otherwise so was just wondering, thanks.

i know /knew a few people who drank 10-15 mugs a day and they were as jittery as a vibrator in the middle of december in finland

it does something to your nerves as its seriously addictive too

Thanks. Maybe if I just had the one in the morning and the rest decaf? Is decaf completely okay to drink by the way?

I'd drink at least 10 cups a day, usually 15 or more and there's not a thing wrong with my nerves;)

depends on the coffee you are drinking tbh.

There are big misconceptions that Espresso are full of cafeine. Truth is that a French press would contain more per cup than a shot of Espresso.

I drink 2 - 3 cups a day and also have a cup of tea in the evenings. I don't find any adverse effects or even a kick from them. They are just part of my routine.
I would advise in cutting down on milk based coffee drinks however.
Where as a normal shot/cup of espresso/filter/FP only contains 1-3 calories, a milk based coffee can contain many more, it gets very high if syrups are involved. I would even go as far as to suggest that a large quantity of milk based coffee's will make you feel worse off than drinking it black.

Thanks. It's just normal coffee I drink. Your usual Nescafe stuff with a bit of milk in it, no sugar. Suppose my main question is the caffeine, if 3 or 4 cups of it is bad for you caffeine wise.

Well the Nescaff would be a big problem alright.
Instant coffee is normally made from Robusta which naturally has about twice as much caffeine as Arabica beans used for gourmet coffee's.

So for my usual 2-3 cups you'd be consuming 4-6. If you truely want to indulge but also be social consider drinking filter made from a Chemex or V60
The experience will be a lot more rewarding and you can also have your Kaffeeklatsch

This is all grand but if a person is making their own instant coffee they could just use a small half spoon or less of coffee instead of a full spoon, that alone would cut back a lot. tbh I don't see a big deal with increased coffee consumption (until you are cut off! ) but its an individual thing to decide so I guess the op doesn't share that opinion. I also think its probably not that big a deal to switch to decaf since its just jars of instant involved here, and have two regular coffees in the first half of the day and two decaf after that.

    That is all.

About time descale and clean the Rancilio.
What place would supply both? Hasbean postage is too expensive and Bewleys site says always gives " phone number in wrong format" which prevents me processing the purchase.

Friend sent me a link to this crowd. How do they compare to Hasbean?
The fact they are based here.......

Caffeine isn't really bad for you in any normal dose. It's addictive but not problematically.

prices seem high, I usually get 4 bags at a time from hasbean, including shipping comes in around 22- 24 euro depending on the beans. these guys are all around 6.50, dunno if that includes shipping, but they have a very small selection.
