    Hey all

really quick one. Can anyone recommend a good place to go in the city centre to get laptop screen fixed?

I've two laptops. One i think has dead pixels. 4 inch black line in the corner followed by coloured vertical lines across the screen. The other i think is more serious, possibly the card is screwed.

    Any help would be great

    thanks!
    Trilla

what make / models , someone here may have a spare screen

try and check the second one out on an external monitor, use the Blue Fn and F5 / F8 or which ever keys to change the video output , because most laptops have the video card on the motherboard so if that's faulty it could mean a new laptop (though a few high end laptops did have a manufacturing defect in video cards so might get fixed outside their warranty)

    Cheers captain midnight!

The one i think that the card is gone in is a medion akoya...

The other one i only have a friggin month. Its a sony vaio 17inch, black line in the corner. Do you reckon they'd cover that kind of thing under warranty?

I honestly dont know what happened to it.

    thanks

Sorry if it seemed a tick question! I planned on bringing it back, just heard stories of screens not being covered under warranty.

    thanks all

I think it's me who should apologise, i came across as a bit of an ass.

But if it's that new i'd expect everything hardware related to be covered.

physical damage especially cracked screen is not covered unless you have additional accidental damage cover

check if you house insurance covers them, but your premium might go up

The screen isn't cracked, seems to be a problem with the pxiels. If i press on the back of the laptop or tilt it forward more of the screen becomes visible.

Should be covered so you reckon?

The whole screen now is going depending on the angle of the screen. Something must be loose. I'll see what happens on Tuesday when I ring Sony.

    thanks again to all

    IT'S NOT

they want 342 pounds to fix it as its physical damage. They want 58 pounds to return it unfixed to cater for investigation and delivery.

Theres no external visible damage.extremely pissed and can't find an email address to send my complaint to on Sony vaio site

if you broke the panel it wont be covered obviously

you can buy a lcd panel and install yourself for a fraction of 300quids

It looks like someone has pressed down on the screen on the Vaio. Hook both of them up to an external monitor and see if they function ok.

Did the medion laptop come with a 3 year warranty? If it's not displaying on an external then I'd guess the gpu is goneski.

Just read the part about it only happening on certain angles. It could actually be the LCD cable that has become torn. I've repaired a few of them but others can be beyond repair and require replacement. Cables aren't generally pricey but with Sony you never know.

    Hi,

Not going to tell you anything new but I can see physical damage on both of those laptops. The Sony you can see where the crack starts in the top left of the screen. In fairness I this the price quoted is better than what i have heard Sony quote other people. I've heard them quote people €800 is repair a laptop that only cost €600. Sounds madness but I've seen the quote. We repaired it back then for €135.

Whats the model number in the bottom right hand corner of the screen of the Sony laptop.

Don't have the unit back yet so don't know. Gonna get it fixed elsewhere

If the damage to the Sony is covered by warranty then why would you look anywhere else?

If the diagonal line from the top left-hand corner of the Sony screen is NOT physical damage then you probably just a have a loose or damaged cable, hence the variation when you change the angle of the screen. That's a common issue with laptops and could be a very simple & quick fix.
