Hi, I am scrapping my 98 corolla and was wondering if I stripped it down myself, how much would the car be worth if I was to bring the metal into a scrap metal dealer.?

What's wrong with it that it needs to be scrapped?

A Corolla is worth almost SFA to a scrapyard, there are so many of them around so it's not like there is a shortage of parts with them or anything like that, especially as Corollas from the 90s basically never cause any kind of trouble.

If you want to stay on the right side of the law you can't just strip it and sell the metal as scrap, you have to deliver it intact (i.e. no dumping of other parts) to an Authorised Treatment Facility
Waste Management (End-of-Life Vehicles) Regulations 2006
Requirement on a Registered Owner to deposit an End-of-Life Vehicle at an Authorised Treatment Facility.
    35. (1) Where the registered owner of a specified vehicle decides to discard that vehicle as waste, he or she shall deposit that vehicle -
    (a) at an authorised treatment facility in a producer's national collection system, or as the case may be,
    (b) at an authorised treatment facility which does not form a part of a producer's national collection system,
for the purpose of its being the subject of appropriate treatment and recovery in accordance with article 15 and the Second Schedule of these Regulations.

Just to warn you, if youre scrapping the car you have to take it intact to an Authorised treatment Facility and get a Certificate of Destruction. This is proof that you have scrapped the car and it is the only thing that can deregister the car in ireland, if you tick the scrapped box on the vrc and send it to shannon this wont work as theyll send it back to you and ask for the cod. wherever you take it make sure you get the cod. with the conformance costs of running an ATF and the depollution etc that has to be done the car wont be worth much if anything. there are only 12 atfs in dublin so be careful of anyone who offers cash and takes it away, it could end up back on the road and youll still be liable for it.

Last I heard a 98 Toyota Carrola was barely run in if its a 1998 model. Those things run forever unless some sort of monkey with spanners try to fix it .

If you put a notice up on any free to give away stuff site like www.jumbleworld.ie or advert.ie or similar saying 1998 Toyato Carola free to give away to first commer needs some repair from monkey with a spanner attack syndrom you will probably get rid of it in minutes. There is lots of good mechanics that can get the parts cheap for these things undo any spaneer attack mistakes and make it a runner again .
Same as when you sell it make sure you do the full tranfer of the papers to the new owners

Beware strong rumours are for the new budget December onwards it will require all cars to pay road tax even if they are parked in private grounds no more signing the papers in the garda station the car is not on the road
