Ebay trouble

Hey, I was hoping some more knowledgable folks can help me out here.

I bought a reconditioned Laptop a few days ago on Ebay.
I picked up the laptop myself after paying via paypal, as the seller lives in the same city as me.
After less than an hour of using the laptop I started getting blue error screens and the laptop began shutting itself down.
    I was less than impressed.
I have emailed the seller telling them the problem, and that I would like to return the laptop ( they have a 7 day returns policy)...and I am currently waiting on a reply.
I am now concerned because if I drop the laptop back myself, I won't have proof of returning it.
Would it be better to send it via registered post and have proof of delivery?

Ugh, this is so frustrating and I just want to get my refund and put it all behind me. Can anyone who may have had a similar experience share any advice? The seller has 98.7% positive feedback.

Just an quick update, the seller has just emailed and offered to fix the problem or have me return it for refund if I prefer, which is slightly comforting.

I would still like to know if I am better sending via registered post, or am I being paranoid?!

    Prompt replies much appreciated!

No if you don't send it registered you have no proof of posting it back and if it comes to a Paypal dispute then you would more than likely lose the case.

Problem is the seller doesn't have to refund the cost of the return postage so you will be out of pocket for the postage.

Unless he is really nice and decides to pay it :)

Actually, in this case you may be OK to return it yourself. Since you collected it in the first place, the seller has no proof you even received it. As such, if you return it, and he doesn't issue a refund, you can simply claim non-delivery in the first place, a claim you would win since there's no proof it was ever delivered at all.

Just something to bear in mind before spending needless cash on registered post.

Cheers for the replies guys, I have just had another email and the guy seems genuine enough. He said he should have uninstalled something and tested it before I picked up the laptop, and that was likely to be causing the problem, but he's happy to take it back and refund me in full.

I think it should be alright....I was just a bit worried I'd return the laptop and not see my money back at all or something.

I suppose I was wondering if there were any kind of known scams going on ebay that resulted in people not getting refunded despite returning an item?

you should be ok to drop it back , and ask wen cann u collect it

it sounds like software issue takes about 20-30 mins to sort out , if they gave you backup discs you could do it yourself

Okay, so I dropped the laptop back in person yesterday without any bother.
I told the guy in detail what had been happening and he was very apologetic.

My refund has appeared on my paypal account this morning which is good, only thing is it says it will be pending for 5 days while it clears.
I presume this is the norm? A bit annoying considering my payment went through straight away, you would think a refund would do similar?
