    Hi all

Anyone else using this site? Just discovered it and finding it excellent soo far, great source of all things music. Can literally find anything on it.

Just saw a notice to say that playlists will not be accessible from the end of the month, seriously peed off, found this so handy - One of the better features of the site.

What do ppl think of the site? Are you using it? Playlists axed? Your thoughts please!

Download Google Chrome and install the Last.fm free music extension. Specifically the one titled "Last.fm free music," NO other.

It's the most amazing service on the planet, it's free, and Last.fm even released a statement saying they don't mind. You can listen to ANY song on last.fm for free (I have a library of over 2800 artists, many of them quite obscure, I've not been able to play a song with it maybe three or four times tops).

Once you click a song it'll play through whatever songs are listed; I usually just stick on my loved tracks. If you haven't used loved tracks til now, try and set it up so each page is a different playlist, then just set it to play through.

You're also not confined to that arbitrary "must have 15 different artists" or whatever crap.

    Highly recommend it.

Thank you for the advice, will certainly be following it! Have a lot of obscure artists on my last.fm profile & finding it great

Dont usually use Chrome, but am certainly going to download it for this

Thanks again for the advice, much appreciated!

I'm a big last.fm fan but it's lost a lot of ground in the last year or so to Spotify, and to a lesser extent Grooveshark & the Hype Machine

Still a great site though - it's scrobbling and event calendar features are unbeatable, I use them heavily...

The radio though I don't consider worth paying for, I subscribed for awhile but gave up as I felt I wasn't getting my money's worth - the playlists were far too limited and not mad on the radio.

Great site though, I wish bands would adopt it the way fans have so we could get rid of the hideous beast that is Myspace once and for all!

Forgot to mention-- the extension scrobbles your listened tracks to last.fm if you add your account to it.

Have been subscribing for the last few years and think it's one of the very few things worth paying for online. I'm also subscribed to Grooveshark though which I've probably been using a lot more lately.

Go to the last.fm website and click the blue arrows you see beside the songs and let it play through from there.

It doesn't have a direct playlist functionality but if you already have playlists set up on the website, start it on the first song by clicking the blue arrow and it'll play through the list. You can pause (something regular last.fm doesn't let you do!), skip, etc.

Cheers , its fine now its pretty cool alright . Ive noticed for an artist i wanted to listen to they didn't have any albums so i couldn't play them , beggars cant be choosers i suppose
I only signed up to the site recently and haven't used it much .

Thanks a a mill for this info, installed it now and it is playing everything on my playlist, before only some of the stuff would play. It is soooo handy!

Try Mediamonkey player with the native LastFM scrobbler plugin.. works a charm so when playing LastFM radio only my kind of tunes and artists are suggested. Sweet!

Last.fm is brilliant for music, I use it to find new music, find out about gigs, albums etc etc.

We7.com is another great website for streaming music, however the ads between songs are alittle annoying. It scrobbles to your last.fm account also!

great fan of last fm. love typing in an artist and letting it run through to different artists. have had many nights with mates over and let last fm run through for the night. Songkick is a great accompaniment for updates on live gigs too. well worth the 3 quid a month

That's pretty awesome but I think it may have done something to MouseOver events for my browser :p

    /edit: False alarm...I think...something caused a bit of a crash though (OSX 10.6.4, Chrome 7.0.517.41)

Really? That's odd.. I've never had problems with it, but I'm on Windows 7. Latest build of Chrome.

Liah as you seem to be the most knowledgeable on this subject, Im playing an album but it seems to skip a couple of songs , any idea why this might be?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,472 ✭✭✭AdMMM

Probably because it can't find the songs online. It uses a Russian social network to get the music (think of a free-for-all Facebook) so it doesn't have everything.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,750 ✭✭✭liah

    Tools > Extensions > Last.fm Free Music > Options.

Pick your source, try grooveshark or add your own source. You don't have to use the russian ones.

Also, how obscure is what you're listening to?

last.fm was great for a while but now lately it seems to keep playing me the same songs. Even though my library has 18000 scrobbles. Anyway, thanks for that Chrome plugin... it looks very good. It'll inject some further life into last.fm for me i think! I also use grooveshark a lot and occasionally the hype machine.

I don't use the Last FM radio, i only really use Last FM to scrobble songs, build charts and get artist recommendations. If there's any recommended artist that i want to check out i just listen to a few of their songs on youtube.

Last.fm has found me a few bands that I would have otherwise never listened to. Though most of the time I only look to see my music trends or how many songs per day I listen to....so it's really doing nothing more than taking up a small bit of my bandwidth.

I don't get it. I like the idea of the scrobbling feature not sure what else the site does. Seems a bit hard to use. Love grooveshark.

I find it great using the Chrome extension mentioned above, it will play pretty much everything. It is so handy to just listen to music rather than constantly downloading stuff and taking up loads of room!

I really use it to find new bands, it will recommend new bands based on what you are listening to and adding to your library. Have found some excellent stuff that I would never have come across otherwise.

You can also play your library radio, giving you lots of stuff you should like, or listen to the radio of an artist you like, which bring up lots of interesting stuff

I also love the Playlist feature, have added tonnes of songs to this so just stick that on and it will play lots of great tracks I like for hours and hours.

The Love Track feature is also good, keeps all your favourite songs together.

I also downloaded a mobile app so I can log into last.fm from my phone and use a wireless connection to play my playlist etc. Very handy if I am visiting friends as all you need is your phone, just hook up to a speaker.

Thats what I find handy about it!

Ya you can play playlists, recommended radio, artists etc through the mobile app. I am using "Mobbler" for my nokia phone. I just stick it on and it will play for hours!

I did, but I just uninstalled the scrobbler thing and reinstalled it and it was grand.

If you have a Jailbroken iPhone, you can source the Last.fm app from a few places. It looks as if Last.fm have pretty much abandoned development of their iOS app however and are concentrating on their Android app.

bumping this to show off something i found, very handy if you use last.fm and spotify

    http://spotibot.com/loved/

you enter anyones last.fm username and that site generates a spotify playlist of their loved tracks. usually gets about 80% of the tracks. very handy.
