Best try the Oz Travel forum.
No mortgage or debt is good - you just need to work to keep yourself. there's no better opportunities in Ireland - in fact best you'll get in ireland is a work placement scheme, earning €196 a week (less after December)

most of my friends say it should be a good move ,i will miss my friends .but there has to be pain for gain, working conditions are primitive when self employed and people want work done for nothing, insurance alone costs me 2,5000 ,tools , equipment , van, it goes on and when you look at profit ,it small money, i am told i can make $1000 a week in this job in aussy, thanks for comment ,anyone being there and done that ,would like to hear,

Is that $1,000 net of tax?
    Residents
These rates apply to individuals who are residents of Australia for tax purposes Tax rates 2009–10

    Taxable income
    Tax on this income

    0 – $6,000
    Nil

    $6,001 – $35,000
    15c for each $1 over $6,000

    $35,001 – $80,000
    $4,350 plus 30c for each $1 over $35,000

    $80,001 – $180,000
    $17,850 plus 38c for each $1 over $80,000

    $180,001 and over
    $55,850 plus 45c for each $1 over $180,000

So would be about $830 net of tax. Thats about €580 a week. There are probably deductions other than income tax. I'm not familiar with the Australian tax system.

Factor in living costs, rent, transport, etc. I know the cost of living in Oz is lower, but how much lower. What would your wife do? Could she go with you or would she need a separate visa? Do you own your home here and could you let it while you're away?

look up LAHFA when you are setting up over there

I ended up paying about about an effective tax rate of 5% when there

that was on a good wage

a huge number of the irish and other ex-pats use this

    http://www.jobcapital.com.au/

    is who I used

Definitely a good idea to check out the Aus/NZ forum. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=1121. There's a lot of good advice on cost of living etc. As I'm in NZ my answers wouldn't be as relevant.

All I'll say is yes, it's very far away from your family and everything you know but the world is getting smaller and smaller. With technology it's easier to keep in touch. You just need to weigh up if it will give you a better quality of life. Will the benefits be worth moving to the other side of the world?

As the post before your says.
Best way to view it is as an extended holiday, if you own your own house, you've nothing to lose. great country, great people, great weather.
only prob is homesickness, but as i say, view it as a long hol and you'll be grand imo.

ps, no need to renew vhi, they've a full health care system over there esp for legal workers.
