i can't help but i'm also in the market for one.. I was just going to get a basic aul yoke but am now having second thoughts and thinking of getting a very good one, i'd appreciate any opinions out there as to what you'd recommend, and why.

As far as the HR monitor/computer goes, there are two directions: Garmin or not. Garmin is probably out of your price range, so that's an easy decision, but they're also not the best for HR monitoring, although I've never had any issues with that.

The most established brand for HR stuff is probably Polar. Maybe have a look around here and see what suits. I bought a Suunto from them and was happy with the service.
