Sorry to rub this in, but......

    YIPEEEEEEEEE

That means that it should be empty enough Northbound at Ballymount when I get on there :D

Now to be a bit more helpful.

Come off at Firhouse and head through to Tallaght?

So far I've heard the traffic is backed up to Cherrywood... so... no:)

I'm going to bypass the M50 completely.

had to slam on on the M4 on my way home - felt the abs working and everything. The cars in front just broke hard all of a sudden?

Watch yourselves, it's crazy out there...

Ah it's news like this that makes me glad I now cycle to work rather than battling me way through M50 traffic.

Absolutely horrendous traffic the whole way home, and I didn't even use the M50!

Hope there's no serious injuries. I always find it strange that people care more about a few minutes added to their journey than what may have happened to the unfortunate people involved in the accident.

in fairness it was probably caused by some retard who shouldnt be behind the wheel in the first place so i have no concern for him or her . although agree about the other people involved hope there not to serious

Let me guess middle laner suddenly realised that this was their exit and tried to leave Motorway from middle lane but left in an ambulance instead.

Seriously though hope everyone is alright.

Was another crash done near Bray on the N11 caused traffic to back up on the m50 heading south, was glad not to be heading that way, but encountered a few crazy drivers trying to jump the queues obstructing other lanes

It was over an hour for me, and as much as two hours for others.
Whatever about the cause or the result of the accident, that it took that long to clear it was an utter disgrace.

the crash happened around 3.45 today.
i left work at 4pm and went along the m50.
joined at junction 14 leopardstown going northbound. traffic was at a standstill on the ramp and backing up southbound on the m50.
so i just filtered on through all the thousands of cars and trucks and busses.
the traffic added about 5 minutes to my journey.
the crash was northbound before junction 12
it was before the turn just before the downhill part and the new speed camera lines, so was not exiting junction error. more than likely a twat on a phone.
and the sun was not a factor in the crash as at that time of the day the sun does not play a part on that part of the road.
there was a nice little mini and an audi mushed up on the side of the road.
i passed out a recovery truck that was trying to get to the crash scene.
loads of oil on the road.
about 5 or 6 gardai on scene.
they had the yellow crash investigation lines marked out.
but i have heard that nobody was seriously injured.
got to the red cow junction about 4.20,
thankfully the traffic wasnt as bad as normal but was still heavy in the naas road.

    edit.
when i passed the crash site, they had already cleared 2 cars and another was about to be taken away , leaving just 2 cars.
the biggest problem was there was a huge amount of oil on the road, most of which came from the mini.

    edit edit.
fair play to the dhl guys in the vans, they blocked a car and a van that tried to scoot up the hard shoulder. before the dundrum merge.

I heard just before i left work. I approached the the stillorgan rounydabout and it was crazy altogether, you had people reversing and trying to turning back from the exit on to the M50 back on to the roundabout. I ended up going through the city centre and it took me over and hour.

I'm glad to hear no one was seriously injured but as someone else has posted it was probably caused by an idiot who should not be driving.

You must be a master of weaving - I also joined at junction 14 at 4PM and it was after 5 by the time I got by the crash site.

There was some other accident somewhere lucan direction on the N4 that blocked the N4 + M50 this evening too.

Thankfully I was on the bike today so it took a whopping 10 extra mins (or33%) for my journey, but I was amazed at how much muppetry goes on.

The "merge on/off" lane was blocked almost from the blanchardstown onramp (the direction I was travelling), and there were pockets of people merging every 300m or so in all the way up to the lucan exit. I mean sure, if you've skipped 1km of traffic you might as well bull in now  I was quite prepared to go on to the next junction and tootle back via the ORR. Thankfully I was able to nip in at one such clump of blockers without impeding anyone.

The fact that the mergers were blocking the "inside" lane, causing those not merging to wait/attempt to join the middle lane, which was causing many middle lane hoggers to head for the overtaking lane and add in the rain I'm surprised there weren't more pileups.

    Shocking stuff altogether.

Probably slammed on the brakes when he saw the speed camera lines.

Took me three hours to get from Dub - Limerick!! Traffic from M50 southbound going on to N7 was a nightmare, then more than two thirds were driving in the overtaking lane on the M7 and braking every few hundred metres for whatever reason! Probably people that had pulled into left hand lane to undertake everyone and force their way back in
