Take a break. :) A week off is good for the soul. Are you getting enough sleep? And are you eating properly?

How long have you done this before? I do a good 1.5 - 2 hours workout a day, 5 days a week and take the weekends off. Every 3 months I take a week off and I find that helps. Other then this week when was the last time you drove to work and didnt go to the gym?

yep same happened to me after gaelforce- was totally worn out, mentally and physically. took 2 full weeks off and came back and did a 10km PB.

i think a week (or at least 4 days off) every 6 weeks is wise..

Also, your problem could also be that youre not getting enough rest, water or good nutrition.

For me, if i'm not properly hydrated it's all a disaster- EVERYTHING- i cant train properly, i get cranky, i get spots. I'm not sure if there's any scientific basis to this, but i definitely think some people suffer more from dehydration than others. Perhaps it's to do with what your body is used to, or perhaps some people's physical make up requires more hydration- or combo of both.. but if i dont have 2.5-3 lts a day, it all goes pear shaped for me.. i'd say the same is true for a lot of people, especially if youre training 4 times a week AND walking 5 hours a week too, you would certainly need 3 ltrs.

In summary- Look at your nutrition, your hydration and the amt of rest youre getting.. and take 4 days off and see how you feel. If you can afford it, get a nice massage for yourself too!:)

I am sleeping a lot more in bed at 9pm sleep until 7.30am and wake up feeling like I have'nt slept at all. I am also getting in from work and sleeping for maybe 30mins. as for diet I am eating less and have put this down to not using any energy.

jaysis.. that's a lot of sleep. You need to definitely take a week out of the gym.

Maybe post a sample of your daily diet- you say you are eating less, but training 4 hours a week and walking 5? I suspect you arent fuelling properly. I know 4 hours a week is not extreme training, but you would still need to be fuelling properly. What about hydration? This is a key factor for me..

Are you suffering from persistant DOMS? That was a big one for me.. also, a slightly quicker resting heart rate than normal is another one..

I have never taken so much time out of the gym and if i do i would still walk to work. and i'm eating less as i am not training at all this week.

    my usual diet would be

    Breakfast

    Lunch
Mixed salad with chicken or tuna
    Pitta Bread
    Banana

    Dinner
    Soup
2 chicken breasts/ or any meat
    Veg /salad
    Potatoes /or pasta/ Couscous

    Snack
    1 yogurt
    Go ahead bar
    2 crackers with jam

Dunno what size/weight/gender you are but that doesn't seem like much food for someone doing four days in a gym.

I would suggest you go and see a doctor. That's not right.

I generally go to bed early 10pm but dont sleep until 10.30pm
but yes i agree sleeping this much is not a good sign. I do think
taking a break from every so ofen from the gym will do me good.

IMHO is not the sleeping so much that's not a good sign. It's more the fact that you stated that you wake up after 9 hours sleep feeling like you have not slept at all. This does not seem normal and I think is the reason Khannie advised a trip to your GP may be in order.

OP - years ago I had a similar sleeping issue. I got tested for allergies and it turned out I'm allergic to cow's dairy products. Considering I drank litres of milk every day, and love cheese, this was a big deal! I was lethargic all the time. When I cut it out of my diet, I ended up needing less sleep... and finally feeling rested when I woke up.

Just something to consider. Your doctor should be able to advise you.

thanks for your replies, I think a visit to the GP is in order, and look forward to getting back to the gym when feeling better. thanks
