How do you know if you should be on Benefit or Allowance? And when do you change from one to the other?

As far as I'm aware, they check your credits. If you have enough PRSI contributions JSB, if not JSA.

I got it sorted out. All I have to do is take in my last P45. The first visit to the social welfare office to find out what a letter meant I spoke to two different people who didn't seem have a clue. The second visit it took ages to finally get told that all I need to do is bring in the old P45. They weren't taking into account my last job (and stamps) at all!!!

My advice id question, question, question.

If you qualify for JB you can opt for JA instead.

    Why would someone do that?
