Connecting via wifi on iphone 3g

Hi Guys,
Just got a used iphone today and was wondering how to connect via wi-fi?

The handset picks up the router and connects fine but when I try to browse I get a
"could not activate cellular data network"
"you are not subscribed to a cellular data service" error message. Anyone know how to work this out?

It's a factory unlocked 16GB model on meteor, not sure of the firmware or O.S version.

Try turning off cellular data to force it to use wi-fi. It's in Settings-General-Network.

You may need to apply these settings. There's a thread on the top of the page for iPhones on Meteor.

Tried setting Meteor settings, no dice. Not sure how to turn off cellular data, just given a config menu when I click it.
I turned off data roaming if that is what you are referring to.

Either way it's still not working. Any other suggestions?

Go in to; Settings-General-network. Celular Data switch at the top.

Cheers man, I just updated to I.OS 4 there and the option to turn off cellular data was available unlike in 3.2.1

Turned it off along with 3G, Wifi signal is healthy but now I'm gettting an error saying "safari cannot open page because it is not connected to the internet"

I still don't know what's going on.

Any other suggestions would be more than welcomed.

Put those settings in again and see. If no joy look at the Meteor thread at the top and you'll be sorted. I had to do it for 2 mates on Meteor last week, just make sure you put it in exactly, check then double check.

I need to install ssh or cydia onto my iphone. I'm not sure if I can do this. My iphone's not jailbroken it's carrier unlocked (not sure if that makes much of a difference)

Ran ifunbox but it didn't pick up my iphone so I'm at a bit of a loss.

I got it working eventually. Didn't need the meteor data settings.

Hi Guys
I have the same phone. My problem is my phone keeps dropping my home wifi signal even though my lap top works all over the house. I have to be very near the router for my i phone to pick up the signal advice or help would be very much appreciated thanks
