Wrote a letter of cancelation to Sky today giving the 31 days notice etc. Can you still do it this way or do you have to phone them?

You can still write to them although I think they start the 31 days notice from when they receive the letter. You can phone them too which I found to be quick and easy. Was even offered a deal but had to decline. Took less than 5 mins, and it was 31 days from the time of the call.

I would have to disagree with you - i wanted to cancel sky about 6 months ago - i spent 2 evenings and over an hour on hold trying to get through to their cancelations office. Sky is the most frustrating company i have ever dealth with.

OP - not sure about letter.

Couldn't see an email on their site. Didn't want to ring them. Just to clarify I am gone past the minimum 12 month contract period. On one of those half price offers at the moment using original equipment. They are a month to month arrangement I believe.

Do you mind telling me what deal they were offering you. I would like to get a new sky box as mine is 3 years old and the drive size is smaller than the new boxes. To get a new box they want to charge for the latest box and charge for HD which I do not want to subscribe to.

They offered me half price on whole package for 6 months, couldnt take it up. I know people who have tried to upgrade their box alright but sky always want to charge for it or hook them up to HD or some package.

Try UPC. They damn near drove me mental. But it differs for everyone I suppose.

Just make sure you're ok with cancelling if they say ok when you ring. They've been known to not offer any deal and just accept your cancellation too.

Good to know. But I guess if they do I can always go back to them in my wifes name. Hey they might even give the deal for new users to her if I do. Whats the chance of that happening :)

Was offered a half price deal for 6 months, about 3 months after I had ended my original 12 month contract. If you get a new box though, you might have to take a new 12 month contract.

Ended up ringing them after all with that Freephone number listed in the Freephone Sky Ireland Number thread! Nice piece of thread resurrection at the right time! Thanks for all the replies.
