Cat D is usually fairly minor damage but insurer didn't repair. If the car is a few years old it doesn't take much damage for the bodyshop costs to write it off or the car was stolen and eventually recovered but the insurer had already paid out. But in your case the car is not old so it might have been border d/c or stolen and when recovered needed some repairs

Either way ask to see the receipts of the work that was carried out. Ring the garage to confirm they carried out the work and get the car inspected by your own mechanic.

Keep in mind that ros/ncts wont care if the car has been repaired when that are judging the duty to be paid on it

    Good info thanks!

So how much roughly would I need to pay the nct on this car after buying it ?

Mileage seems v low too could it be clocked?

You make your choice and live with it i suppose.

Ah yeah, I know, but usually there'd be more than just Audi there. Just thought it looked funny :)

From the insurers point of view the category of damage, C and D is based on value, not on actual damage. Cat A and B is different as the car is deemed unsafe and must be scrapped.

From that perspective a low value cat C car may have had less damage to it than a high value cat D.

That BMW is an expensive car to replace so the damage could have amounted to quite a lot.

If I was going to import and pay VRT on a car I personally would not want it to be crash damaged. Also that car has no leather despite having a high spec engine and exterior and that is going to hamper resale on a car such as this imo. Additionally has it been an M-sport spec or has that been fitted in lieu of damaged parts.

Incidently the 19in alloys are renowned for cracking and subsequently deflating and ruining 300quids worth of run flat tyre.

You will also have to take into consideration that you will have to inform a future purchaser when you go to sell the car on. A Cat D may not be very attractive to a potential purchaser who will be thinking like you are now.

Keeping it for the foreseeable future is the key. Assuming you have satisfied yourself that it's all above board...

Thats what i was thinking of doing anyhow. Anyone know of any reliability issues with this car? (alloy wheels seems to be one from previous poster)

    Cheers

Some insurers will provide a brand new repalcement car on their comprehensive policies where any damage is done to a car which is less than one year old. It could have been very minor damage.

Am told once a car is considered a insurance write off which this is and is on hpi -its takes 20% off its value..
come selling time, you will also get it very hard to trade it in at garages as they will offer you silly money for it..

you specifically looking for a diesel?
also don't forget the reve will prob now look for VRT on any extras, seem to have clamped down a lot recently. may increase that 7.5k a bit

if not, [shameless]have a look at sig[/shameless] may be of interest?
    :o

Thanks for all responses just 2 more questions:

Whats the difference between the 325D and 330D engine is it not the same thing?

    Also

this car says its an M-sport ..what extras are in it compared to a standard 325D coupe? (as the interior looks fairly baisc..but Msport must not have anything to do with interior spec is it)

325 is 2.5 litre and 330 is 3litre..330 give loads of bother, high tax, high vrt... hard to sell on ..best of luck anyway..

some of the m sport had lower co2 emissions

id have thought both where 3.0d, the 325d is just remapped for economy with a trade off of a bit less power and less emissions. like the 525d 530d. same thing i suspect?

    Eiretyres 278quid + fitting

    Camskill are 200stg + post + fitting

    19/225/35

Its well known about the 19" wheels being a mare on e90's. My mate went through 3 new wheels before forcing Joe Duffy's to change them to 18's. When the wheels went the runflats were usually too damaged to be reused.
