O'Brien's most over rated horse. I'd go to Henrythenavigator before him if I were to go for a new stallion at Coolmore

Agreed, he goes on about Rip's turn of foot. For me he takes an age to get going.

I read a while ago he might spend half the season standing in Ireland, could have changed since then.

Agreed,he needed every yard over 10 to nail Twice Over. 'great miler' I think not.

Never heard of a stallion doing half a breeding season in Ireland and the other in the States but i could be wrong although I can't think of why they would do that. Perhaps what you saw was that he was going to shuttle to the SH.

Why is Fame & Glory being kept in training? Doubtful he can win an Arc at 5. Gold Cup horse maybe?

They switch some of the Coolmore horses between Australia and here, can't imagine why they wouldn't do it to the U.S

In relation to Higgins' question, him and Cape Blanco are being kept in training. I'm not sure of what their plans are though.

Looking at Coolmore's site here. Holy Roman Emperor,Duke of Marmalade,Aussie Rules and High Chapparal to name a few are shared between Australia and Ireland.

Majority of flat sires in Ireland are shuttled to Australia or NZ for the southern hemisphere breeding season.

The reason it would be VERY RARE they would spend half the season in ireland and the other half in the USA is we share the same breeding season as the yanks, so by the time you get the horse shuttled to the USA, go thru quarantine, get settled in and then resume stallion duties, the stallion has lost a number of days - resulting in a loss of turnover...

What would you say was a turn of foot?? RIP DID have a turn of foot and had the sectionals to prove a turn of foot.

Forgot about thje difference in the hemispheres breeding seasons, must not have read about Henry being shuttled, maybe it was that he'd come to Ireland after a while.

I don't think Rip has beaten the best of horses to be branded as good as O'Brien claims.

He has beaten Paco Boy, Twice over, Dick Turpin. He ran Sea the stars to a lenght and Canford cliffs to a 1/5 lenght. he was rated 130 at his peak. A satisfactory Grp 1 would have a rating of 125+ . I wouldn't use him because he was too delicate.

Paco Boy is a seriously over rated horse I think. He's being getting flattered running close to Goldikova.
    Twice Over is a good group 1 horse,but isn't a superstar.
Dick Turpin is the same, not as good as Twice Over.
They can't really advertise 'Ran Sea the Stars to a length',maybe I'm wrong.
And Canford Cliffs could have won by further,Hughes was toying with him.
I can obviously see that he has the credentials to be a stallion, but no classic wins would be the biggest thing for a horse that O'Brien thought the world of. No point denying it he was a very good horse, but the way O'Brien went on about him,he should have beat Sea the Stars and won a clean sweep. His defeat to Poet's Voice worried me. No way is he a group 1 horse for me.

He was rated 130 by people who know so he was a good group 1 horse .

If the criteria is a classic winner rated over 130 than you'll be breeding a mare for about 60k every 10 years or so.

The point I'm focussing on is how over rated he was by O'Brien.

I personally think that O'Briens over rating of his horses is over rated, if you know what I mean.

Funny enuf I know exactly what you mean!

But really O' Brien is just an employee of coolmore. Thats his job to hype up his horses and to boost potential stud fees. You'll never here him say that a horse isint right, prone to injury or has abundance of stamina. It always this horse is something special, has a great attitude or is a real speedy sort!

In fairness,a lot of them are the best horses in the business.
It's funny how Coolmore are really benefitting from other trainers using their stallions. Look at what New Approach and Frankel have done for Galileo, arguably the best stallion in the world.
