Rail Commuting in Dublin

I was a regular rail user (Coolmine -> Connolly/Pearse) for some years, and recently got so frustrated with the service, (and my main gripe - having to pay to park at the train station - walking there is not an option for me) that I started to drive into the city. If they built a new parking area to provide this as a new service, then charging is fair enough - but as this service was always "free", I can;t believe that with Greens in the government they put impediments in the way to using public transport...btw, I mailed IE a couple of time for the reason for the parking charges, and was told that they needed to upgrade the facility - and on questioning this, was told..."CCTV cameras for security"...and thats it.

While I would prefer to use the rail service, I find it frustrating (and twice had to pay parking fines as my ticket blew away when rushing for trains - I know my own fault, but £120 a pop - not even that to park illegally on O'Connell St) using the rail service and am a convert back to the old car.

I also note that the wonderful new Dunboyne service serves Docklands - is that why the huge park-and-ride is practically empty (ok, relative to its size).

What is going on with IE - even time Barry Kenny is on George Hook for their regular love-in, it would seem that IE is the best rail service provider in Europe...and George just gives him the forum for this "free advertising"...sorry, I'm not buying.

    Rant over...viva la Car
