Is there any way to find out what a file type is when the extension has been removed or changed and the file name gives no hint.

If it's a small file then open it with notepad? (Or if larger some text viewers might be able to handle it, maybe Notepad++)

Then you'll either have a text file or a binary file, I'm sure there's something you can do.

Search online for a suitable program, windows gives this functionality
