hi, just wondering how long are points are kept on licence before they are wiped off - is it after a year and you then start again with clean sheet

Three years. And not from the date of the offence but the date you get notified by post of when they will be put on. Can take a few weeks for the letter to arrive!

4 years is the norm in UK, but there are offenses that will keep an endorsement on your licence for 11 years.
Totting up 12 points in a 3 year period gets you disqualified.
