Fiesta - radio code

    Hi there
Got new clutch put in my '96 Fiesta recently, radio has not worked since and I don't have the code (checked under ashtray/car manual).
Called back to mechanic, who extracted radio and gave me 6 digit number, said to give this to a Ford dealer, who would then give me the radio code. However, I see from boards.ie that most garages seem to charge for this.
Can any altruistic boardsie help out and find the code for me? The number given by the mechanic was M00401.
    Ta in advance

Aaagh! I keyed the code into my mobile phone when he was calling it out to me. It reads as M " zero zero four zero one
Always use alphabetical texting and have never mastered numbers etc on this cursed nokia! Don't know what the " sign could signify, if anyone has any thoughts...

If it is number '1' then your code will be -1609
