    Contact the user called Tragedy

He imported one although I do believe they were on the Revenue website as I looked at importing one before. Otherwise call revenue.

Well a 2004 2.0 cdti high spec rover 75 has vrt of between 1100 and 1300 bepending on emissions. You could probably add alittle bit on for the ZT.

You didn't try very hard to get a quote did you?

Ah, it listed under rover. THats a bit silly when they have the MG TF listed seperately.

Silly indeed, they have my ZT down as Rover MG on the reg cert, same on the tax and NCT cert. No mention of ZT 180 anywhere, totally daft.

Why not ? It's emissions based.

the % of omsp is still correct
the omsp that the nct use is no longer the same as that listed by that calculator

Really? So where do the NCT people get the valuations from? and why would revenue continue to leave that site up if it was not longer correct?

I'll be able to give a guide on all this.

My car is due to be inspected on the 2nd of November

Currently the website says I need to pay €1904 but I'm interested to see how much I'm actually asked for

I would hope it is 1904 plus whatever they want to add for extra spec you may have. Will be interesting to see this though. PLease report back

    Will do Mick.

    It's a 1.9TDI(105 bhp) Passat 2006MY 55 plate SE with 110K miles so I'm very interested.

It was meant to be done today but the guys were ***** to my mechanic........I'll make a thread when the whole thing is sorted properly

Cant see there being much extra vrt on that. I believe they charge 3/4 of vrt rate on extras at 1 year old, 1/2 of vrt rate at 2 years old, 1/4 @ 3 years & zero extra at 4 years.

I brought in an 03 MG ZT + CTD(not i, only 115bhp) October 09, appealed VRT and got the OMSP reduced to(I think) €4,000.

Brought in an 05 MG ZT 190 SE in August, appealed VRT and got a whopping 70% of what I paid back.

Forget what revenue charges, start looking for 02-05 ZT CTDi's on donedeal/carzone and take a screenshot of every single one.

I sent off my VRT appeal the day I paid it, with 8 ad's of other MG ZT 190's, ads of a couple in the UK, comparisons to other cars of similar value in Ireland, argued that MG's were generally worth very little due to bad rep, took pictures of paint damage, leather damage, rust on the backbox, a scratch on the satnav screen, the high tax rate etc.

Sounds anal, but it got me a refund of 25% the first time, and 70% the second time so I must be doing something right :)

PS: Nice choice, try get one with alcantara and projector headlights though! Also, if you have any questions about them, shoot me a PM/e-mail, I literally live and breathe MG ZT's :)

Yea sure... The NCT website points you towards this calculator to get your quote and it states that this is the system they use!

If you have a printed quote with you at the NCT office, they will use the statistical code to get their own quote, and check your car to make sure it all adds up. I'm guessing the difference in quotes is to do with people not selecting the correct spec, or the NCT selecting the wrong spec.

OPSM does not take private sales into account. It never has and never will. I'm guessing they reduced your quote because it was way off dealer prices.

Sorry steve, in cases you've experienced they may have refused to reduce the price on VRT because dealer ad's contradicted whatever figure you argued, but I have two cases of supplying private sale only ads and getting VRT knocked off as a result.

I know what the VRT appeal manual says(dealer ads only), but hey - it works :)

Yes it does, you are dead right. I did the same. Sent in the donedeal ads. Got my refund.

In my case I wasn't willing to take a chance on it by looking for a refund after paying VRT. The car I was enquiring about, they had already overvalued by around 12k. It wasn't in the calculator and when I requested a quote I supplied loads of link to similar cars and they said absolutely no way they'd go back on the quote and that private sales do not count.

The people in the VRO offices had some leeway to change a quote, but it was completely their prerogative.

The people who process VRT appeals are seperate/different.

They valued my second MG ZT at €14,000, brought down to €4,000. The Lady at the VRO even told me it was a ridiculous quote, but that she couldn't or wouldn't alter it.

If you bothered reading that thread you'd see I replied in it and that someone from the NCT centre said they still use that system.

she said she couldn't give a quote from the nct system and that it was similar
    michellie wrote: »
Well the majority of the fee's im calculating are the same as what the people are getting on the Ros website, so I cant explain the difference/whats happening in other centres. But the fee is generated from Revenue, believe it or not.

Darobot, if your appealing it, you do through revenue, its delt the same as it would have been on the 31st August before NCT took it over.

No, Sorry. Can't get a price until we input all the details when you go to the centre.

From the NCT website. (This should go into the scam thread)

You may be able to obtain an estimate of the VRT due from the Vehicle Registration on-line Enquiry System. While Revenue maintains an accurate valuation for all vehicles on its database, because of the variety of makes, models and versions available, the vehicle presented for registration at an NCT centre may differ significantly from a similar one on Revenue’s database resulting in a significant difference in the VRT charged to the amount you expected.

but hey i'm sure you know better so im not gonna bang my head arguing with you

So it is from the revenue system.

Same when you go into any VRO. quotes change daily.

This is common knowledge and was always the case because a lot of people don't select the correct variant in the calc.
The amount above is that payable on the date of enquiry. A different amount may be payable if the Open Market Selling Price has changed and/or if a different rate of CO2 emissions is applicable.
