New unemployed professional back to work scheme

I just heard in passing that the government have set up a back to work scheme for unemployed professionals, where by accountants / architects / solicitors currently on the live register, are paired with a company in need of say an accountant, for a trial period of 3 months, the accountant still recieves the dole and the company are under no obligation to pay any extra remuneration to him/her and may or may not chose to keep on the accountant after the 3 month period.

So you work hard for 3 months at €196 a week (that you would otherwise get for doing nothing) with little chance of a permanent job after 3 months in this ever consuming recession, and if they do decide to keep you on they certainly won't be offering a respectable salary after they've seen you work like a f*!kin monkey for peanuts!

It looks like the dumb government are trying to get something for nothing from professionals, who studied and trained so hard for 5/6/7 years to get our letters, and are more educated than any of those egjits in power!

I think I'd pass and just keep that last ounce of dignity I had!

Nothing new here I'm afraid. Check out the FAS website for jobs, you'll see a large number of jobs with "WPP" in the salary section. In these cases a company can have the use of slave labour for up to 9 months.

Whether it's "professionals" , "tradesmen" or "other" it doesn't matter, If somebody is trained in a subject, job role or have 10 years previous experience they do not need to be placed in slave labour for a trial.

Yes I agree the government are idiots, please remember this at the next election. I also agree you are correct not to give your services to such company.

Sounds like a good plan for part qualified people who can add to their practical experience requirements. I'd agree with your comments for qualified people.

Better than sitting on your ass I suppose.

At least you're doing something, getting experience and another line on your cv while you search for a full-time job.

Tho i can see how it might be demeaning...

I would feel very sorry for a professional accountant who is not capable of earning €196 a week without resorting to a scheme like this.

The government basically abolished minimum wage with all these crazy back to work schemes. The fact the government then pays the wages is just another reason why this country is not worth bailing out.

My opinion.. Cut tax. Cut benefits. Cut spending. And cut all these half-baked schemes which are poorly thought out, poorly administered and ultimately harmful to the economy... most WPP schemes make it impossible for someone in the welfare trap to get a minimum wage job.. because all the minimum wage jobs are taken up by people doing work placement schemes! So they go from their €196 dole, to €196 beta, maybe a few €196 fas courses followed by a 3 month €196 work placement scheme only to return to claiming €196 dole at the end of the period. All the while draining the system!
