    Hey!!

I was just wondering if people could tell me what they feel are the best knitting magazines available to the irish market? I really wana start collecting but when I go into the shop there are just so many to choose from and they are all wrapped so cant even flick through them to get a feel for them!! I am a pretty experienced knitter and can knit anything from clothes for myself to clotes for children and babies and knitted toys etc. I like quite modern funky stuff. Would anyone be able to advise me on what they feel is the best knitting magazine out there?

The Knitter and Yarn Forward are geared towards more fashionable knitting but they're not for beginners. These usually aren't wrapped in plastic. Most of the other magasines are aimed at knitters of all ages so they have baby patterns, toys, household stuff and both practical and fashion garments. Simply Knitting claims to be the best seller. You're better of to buy a few and see which one appeals to you and then subscribe to it. You won't get the special subscription offers because you're outside the UK but it's much cheaper than buying it every week.

Thanks so much! I had heard of simply knitting but not the other two. I checked them out some of the patterns look like they will be fun to tackle! I am going to just buy a few of them this month and look through them and decide after that! I quite like making the toys so knowing me I will want one with modern bits and one with toys so I might end up subscibing to two!

I know there is something nice and chatty about a magazine, but I find that books from Amazon (or wherever) are much better value than magazines. Also have a look at Ravelry.com - all the patterns, chat and advice you are ever likely to need!

Very few of the mags have more than one pattern I like in them.

I use ravelry for all my patterns now. It's free and takes up no space on your bookshelf.

Seconded on Ravelry. Knitty is also a great magazine, it's online at knitty.com and is free to download.
