There's no change really, when I had a commercial in my last job I was told it was for work only, if I used it then I could be liable for the difference in tax.

If they start enforcing the law then of course, commercials, 4x4s in particular will become very unpopular and the prices would fall through the floor.

No change I hope - unless they want to introduce a middle tax band for commercials that are also used privately. Say €500 across the board for such vehicles. That'd be something I'd have no problem with at all.

Personally think it'll just be more of the same with them slapping more duty on petrol & diesel as they always do.

im actually looking for a change of jeep at present but prices at still very high at the minute so im waiting to next year when I hope there will be loads of jeeps up for sale at much lower price as people will be trying to get shot of them.
one guy i know when to tax his 3.1 trooper jeep and would told he had to tax it private ..got a shock and then agreed to tax it privately for 3 months as he needed it..then they told him they couldnt tax it afterall as he has insured it commerically and would have to get that sorted first...he now selling it ,

I don't believe there was any change to the law, Mr. Gormley just made a hash of an attempt to get the existing law enforced by getting people who own such vehicles to sign a declaration that they would not use the vehicle for private purposes, as if that was going to have any effect.

Considering the number of garage owners who shove garage plates on the front dashboard and then drive the kids to school because they're too mean to tax their personal cars, I don't see why drivers of commercial vehicles should be singled out.
