Yes. Its mostly brain dead tripe.
Reality this, reality that, never ending whining soaps, load of false, over-hyped fake talentless PR spun personalities.

Stream the programmes I like, the rest is **** anyway. Lost the telly, save the license fee.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Moved to Australia a few weeks ago, haven't seen TV in a couple of months.
Turned on the box this evening for the first time in ages and whats on?

Only watch football, Inbetweeners and South Park on telly anymore. The rest is useless.

    Except X Factor. Shhhh ;)

It's amazing how productive you become when you turn off the tellybox. Now my interwebsurfing is uninterrupted and I spend hours clicking buttons in Mafia Wars.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

I love TV I wouldn't want to live without it. I'm not much for soaps but I love watching movies especially now that it's coming up to Christmas all the cool ones will be on.

Can't wait to see where you post on Sat night Bigs ;)

I must concur, it's pretty woeful. There's a couple of programs I watch but the majority of time I wouldn't be bothered with it.

    Movies I'd watch now.

Classis example. Thats why I support the likes of Wagner - totally taking the pee out of the whole thing and rightly so. :pac:

If I'm at home during the day at all, I never have it on - and I mean never.
During the mid-week nights it might be on from 6 to 7.15 then its off for the rest of the night. The weekend, same nearly, off during the day and only on for a few hours on Saturday and Sunday - then when finished with stuff wife and I watch, it goes right off again.

My sky was cut off last night. Seriously.

I thought I'd get to pay 2 months next month. Ah well.

In the future TV's are going to come with a camera mounted on them.

So we can watch ourselves on TV while watching ourselves on TV..............dawg.

I can't watch *Irish* TV anymore. The Yanks make great shows though.

I watch football, golf and occasionally a movie on the gogglebox. If I didn't have the teev I'd have to go to the boozer more often for the footer and that just doesn't seem right. In any case my kids would skin me and roll me in salt if I took their sky away.

You know you're supposed to pay the license if you have a PC? Any device that can receive TV signals, which most PCs can. Personally, I haven't paid for a license in years. I'll be fúcked if I'm gonna pay another cent to the fatcats at RTE.

Take out Sport & The Inbetweeners (which is now finished) and I don't watch any tv! If Shameless or Peep Show comes back for another series I'll watch them but that's pretty much it!

I haven't had a TV in years but I still watch a lot of television programs. I tried to watch TV in someone's house recently but it was atrocious. No way I could watch scheduled TV again with its ads and dubbing and crapness.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,255 ✭✭✭Renn

Can't handle ads anymore, can't handle the 500 channels anymore, can't handle watching a certain sports channel anymore, don't want to listen to the 'pundits' anymore....I just download, minus all of the above.

Wrong. You need a licence if your pc has a tv tuner card, which most pc's don't have.

No licence needed for streaming from the internet

TV is dead to me. I now have the attention span of a midge.

Really? I thought most PCs came with a card. Anyway, give RTE a few months or years and they'll add streaming TV to the list of things that require a license. I still won't pay the damn thing. :D

I just use it as background noise usually.

Except for Spooks, Grand Designs, Come Dine With Me and Mythbusters. Never miss those!

there's some good shows out there but i prefer them to watch them through other means.

Turned off my TV after the world cup final at the start of July and haven't turned it back on since. Feel much better for it too. Whilst there can be good stuff here and there on tv the presentation format is just so full of crap, timewasting filler and brainwashing techniques that you really hare better off with out it on a permanent basis.

I can't watch TV, which puts me at a disadvantage with my housemates because it's all they do. Monday, Wednesday and whatever other days are taken up by soaps. Then there's other crud like My Super Sweet 16 and Jersey Shore, which by the way is the stupidest thing on this planet. It makes me feel dumb.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 36,634 ✭✭✭✭Ruu_Old

I don't follow any TV shows, I never heard of anything that is posted in the TV forum for example. I have no desire to watch any of them either. I watch a few things from Discovery and anything else I want, I get from the library.

I haven't turned on my TV in nearly a month. I just download the shows i want to watch and i might occasionally watch the Discovery Channel or the news.

Broadcast television is full of schedule-padding rubbish and reality shows now.

Grand designs sometimes and the odd thing on the dicovery channel but other than that im not bothered theres enough other things to do!

This, framed, with a bow around it. Some really top shows out there.

There are a couple of good Irish productions - Love/Hate could have been dreadful but really isn't and, erm, erm....

Wrong, the TV license only covers television sets not pc's/laptops as broadband is not covered accross the country as of yet, but I have heard they plan to add pc's/laptops to the license by 2012 when broadband is accross the country for real, which is not going to happen lol. wonder how much it will be then €200???

At the end of the day €160 is an unreal amount of money for a few channels that mostly show US shows!

Same with me, i live with a girl and she watches mostly this rubbish all day long and records so much so she doesnt miss any of these shows! which are repeated all day long for weeks on end, E! WFT??? Jersey Shores! WTF!!!!!!
The only thing I watch is XFactor as I cant afford to go out and its the only thing on that is kinda interesting/entertaining/funny.

We had the tv license inspector guy called to our house two days after we moved in, said this to him that we just moved in and we'll sort it out. House mate who is on the dole said she will pay her part (as she watches the tv SO MUCH) over the next two weeks, that was 2 months ago and I have my half waiting to pay but she has nothing! she doesnt drink or smoke, just rent and the small bills we have, its a shame they dont except it in random payments, only that crap €4 stamp(?) a week rubbish in the post office. I think a letter from them came in this morning, havent opened it just yet, I'll pay my part but she better pay her part! I'm not going to court cause she doesnt/cant pay!

Again, too much money for what RTE show.

€160 WHY IS IT SO HIGH!!!!? Can anyone tell me please, besides saying its there wages as RTE get a sh!t load of money from advertising!

    *sorry rant over*

The only thing I use tele for is to watch the rugby and the football, other than that.. There's nothing on but "2 and a half men".

God how people find that tripe funny is beyond me.
