My car insurance is up for renewal next month but i am going to oz in February so i just need 3 months insurance.

So i am just wondering if i pay the full lot of front can i claim some of that back in February when i cancel it? i imagine i wouldn't get everything im owed but would most company's give you back the remaining balance.

Im with insure.ie but shopping around but they dont seem to mention a lot about this on their websites.

All insurance companies that I've been with so far, use following policy.
In first year of insurance with them, if I cancel my policy before the end, they charge cancellation charge.
So in example - if I cancel my policy after 3 months, I get only 50% premium back.
If I cancel it after 6 months - I get only 10% of premium back. If I cancel it after 7 months, I don't get anything back at all.
But if you have the policy for the whole first year, then renew it and cancel in any consecutive period (not first one), then they refund all money for not used part.
So If you cancel after 3 months, you should get 75% premium back.
If it works the same with all the insurers - I don't know.

im in the same boat, i was with axa and they said i would have to renew for a year but if you cancel they would give back what your owed. i asked about charges etc ans said there was none, but im alaways wary of insurance companies!

tried quinn as well and said you have to get it for the year.

its stupid, in america you can get insurance for a month if you want, why are us irish always screwed over when it comes to simple things like this?

no wonder im getting out of here
