I have my car for sale in buy & sell and got a phone call this morning from some fella in carzone.ie saying they will sell it for me on their website if I pay them €39.99 seems too good to be true as they will leave the ad up until the car is sold and not only their website but 3 others associated with the company my two concerns are, they will only take payment with credit/debit card and they are in England. I dont fancy giving my credit card details to someone in England has anyone used these to sell their car?

CBG tried this with me - managed to sell the car without any of them! Simple sign on the window and in the local paper and she was gone!

Many companies do this but carzone have offices in Sandyford so the call shouldn't come from UK even though the parent company is based in the UK (Auto Trader). Call them and see and lettuce know what they say: +353-1-4490650 http://www.carzone.ie/index.cfm?fuseaction=Email

cbg do this when they see your ad up on rival site. I dont know if carzone are doing it at the minute but the uk setup sounds dodgy.
This is the pricing now available on the carzone website so safest thing to do is just go directly there yourself and place an add if you so wish

IMO Carzone are trying to regain some of the market share before donedeal exploded.

When will the learn that €40/€50 is far too expensive (it was €30 FFS:rolleyes:)to advertise a car for sale on the internet

    Edit:
If Donedeal sorted out their search engine and the way cars are listed (also stopping those people using "search words at the end of their ads" they would have the market 100% stitched up

They offered it to me after I put an ad in a local rag.

Told them no as I could print a for sale sign off my computer for free and sell the car easier

It's not a scam, it's just carzone looking for business.

Ahhhh I was wondering why they were calling me when I had mine up on donedeal - I got a missed call from them.

You know what I had my car on them for a month and got no calls. It cost me 39.99. I stuck it on donedeal for 3EURO and shifted it

Carzone got greedy, it used to be €30 until the motor sold, then they put it up and limited the amount of time it stayed on their site, feck them.

    Donedeal for €3 sobs rocks.

Don't think so - why would they call from UK when they have offices in Dublin? Why would they refuse any other form of payment bar Credit / Debit card? What's wrong with cheque or postal order once they clear?

Autotrader owns them hence the call from england.

He said it was a uk number. That has been spoken about before and people have had their credit/debit cards drained.

I know that but it makes no sense when they're based in Sandyford.

I'd imagine they moved their operations to england or something on those lines.

You're confusing it with a scam where you are asked to pay a refundable fee to be put in touch with a guaranteed buyer for your car. This is just carzone touting for business, give them a call if you don't believe me.

Because I worked in a competitor business to them up until very recently, because the MD is a neighbour of a friend of mine and I would have heard from him, because they were recently recruiting staff.

    English chick anyhow.

Genuine or not, why would anyone consider paying €40 to advertise a car when you can reach the same if not wider audience for €3 on donedeal?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,300 ✭✭✭✭casio4

I hadn't heard of donedeal before, well I heard of it but never went into it I have the car for sale on adverts.ie but it has only had a few viewings I'm going to put it on donedeal first and see how it goes, thanks everyone for your replies, great help ;)

    Best of luck.

Just make sure it is priced right, cleaned inside and out, and you have taken decent photos.

I had a car up on CBG and got a call from the Irish Indo asking me if I wanted to advertise, told them to get lost.

I also got a call from carzone but it was definitely an Irish lady, I have to say she was a serious salesperson, she talked the talk big time, told me that the market was almost back to where it had been before the slump, things were on the move, etc. etc. As soon as she realised that I wasn't swallowing her BS she terminated the call very abruptly.

I terminated the call to the lad in England because I was in work and I can't really take calls in work so I said email me and I will look at it later it was the email that got me thinking maybe something is up here, just because it said I could only get the offer for €39.99 if I gave him a ring and did it with a credit card but I have gone on to carzone and see that I could do it on line for the same price. Maybe the fella that rang me gets some kind of commission

There's no 'maybe' about it, anyone who wears a headset and is involved in selling only gets paid for deals they personally handle and close so when you deal with a call agent, the whole conversation is geared around you buying the service or product from the person you are talking to.
