I'm just about set to give my beloved laptop a viking burial after 4 years of service, but need to get a new one. With a budget of €500, I need something which is portable for college, something I can store some files on and watch movies. A disk-drive is preferred but not essential, and I've been put off the idea of Dell and Acer.... any suggestions?

    (currently have a Toshiba Satellite a210-12U (http://ie.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/jsp/SUPPORTSECTION/discontinuedProductPage.do?service=IE&com.broadvision.session.new=Yes&PRODUCT_ID=132293) )

When i saw the link to your old machine i thought it was what you were looking at to buy new!

i got a toshiba satellite L450D-13G and it does the job well. 250 gigabytes is pretty good for storing movies/television shows/music; comes with a disc drive and runs really well. goes for your exact budget (or at least it did when i bought it during the summer). i don't know if you want a change, but if you're comfortable with sticking with toshiba, i recommend going for it.
