    Hi All,
I have gone back to the gym after a break of about 4 years and need some help with motivation/mental attitude towards to gym
I dread going and I would like to change my mind set. The great results helped my motivation levels last time and this time I am not seeing the results that I did before but I do think this is due to my attitude towards the whole thing
    Any comments/tips/hints very much appreciated

Would you try an outdoor fitness bootcamp?

There are a whole heap of these operating nationwide now- more in dublin obviously- keepfit, fitsquad, bootcamp ireland.. for me, it has been the single most affective way of toning up and getting fit- have been doing it for over a yr now.

The gym doesnt really float my boat much either- but then i'm a very social person, so the 'class' element to the bootcamp appeals to me.. and there's a competitive element (circuit races etc) which brings out the best in me. I have never been fitter OR leaner.

Could you tell us a bit more about the results you were looking for in the past, what you achieved, what you are trying to achieve this time and the methods you are used/ are now using?

For me these days, motivation is easy as going to the gym is something I enjoy. If I didn't enjoy it, I would have little or no motivation and would stop tomorrow. I really look forward to squatting, deadlifting etc as I feel great afterwards and slowly see progress with my lifts.

I think results are the best motivation, if you're not getting any then you're going to get fed up fairly quickly! What kind of workouts are you doing? If they're strictly cardio then that could get pretty boring, and it isn't going to help you get the best possible results either. When I first started working out I found that getting a personal trainer for a session a month was a great motivator; I pushed myself more than I would have alone, I could see how I was progressing with my measurements etc., and I had specific, achievable goals to work towards.

Also, as Wonkagirl said, there are lots of Bootcamp type training groups that you could join, or there are the likes for Crossfit Dublin, Crossfit Ireland, and Informed Performance who offer regular coaching and group workouts. You really do have a ton of options, it's just a case of looking in to them and seeing which best suits you!

I can see where your coming from OP.. what you need to do is to set yourself some goals. ie an ultimate goal and short term targets eg complete 20 pressups with good form. if you do a few good, hard sessions in there you should be feeling great afterwards, thats pretty good motivation for me!
if that fails, watch pumping iron on youtube :p! best of luck dude!
