    Hi,

I want to check up on a prosection of a individual and the outcome of his court appearance.
I've checked high and low on the usual sites (courts.ie) etc, can anyone please point me in the right direction?

    Thanks,

    MM

If you are the victim check with prosecuting gardai.

If you are a connection of the accused check with accused.

If you are neither mind own business/google is your only hope if you wern't in court the last day it was in.

Really, surely its a matter of public record somewhere?

    Not really.

The Court (District/Circuit/Central) makes an Order sentencing/remanding/adjourning whatever on the day and that's recorded on the court file and of course pronounced in court and sometimes reported in the media. There isn't a system for accessing those orders externally after the event in place.

I suppose to a certain extent the court file is a public document - you'd have to go to the relevant court office and persuade them of that or more likely put in a Freedom of Information request in connection with it to get anywhere on that ground.

Local media are usually the best source of info on court cases. Give the local paper a ring and ask for the court reporter.

There is. On payment of the appropriate fee the Court Office will give you a copy of the order. It happens every day of the week that solicitors have to go and get copies of orders. Any High Court case can be tracked on Courts.ie. Circuit Court cases can be followed after a fashion through the legal diary on Courts.ie. Most cases however are disposed of in the District Court and so out of the reach of cyber space. The local District Court office is the first port of call.
