Seems, the auditors of the BATU union, have issues with something or other:cool:

Shane Ross: Union loses its auditors

SIPTU is not the only trade union in a spot of bother.
The Building and Allied Trades Union (BATU) lost its auditors last year when Mazars resigned, pleading they had "not been able to meet with the National Executive Council to discuss certain matters. . . . Neither have we been able to obtain certain confirmations in relation to Union income and expenditure. Our relationship with Union representatives has, we believe, deteriorated over the past number of months.
"It is unlikely we will be able to carry out the necessary work in relation to 2009 in a satisfactory manner should we be re-appointed."
BATU's returns and accounts for 2009 are still outstanding. Nothing has been done about it.

The government said in a statement that "We strongly feel the need to appoint a committee to get down to the bottom with the latest union scandals. Once the report is delivered <in 5 years time> we can act on it. As an interim solution we will create a new fluff quango, retirement home, money sink, public contract, committee to oversee union accounting going forward in the public's interest for a socially responsible Ireland. What is good for the union is good for Ireland after all."

This public service announcement was brought to you by your local news agency sarcasm & cynicism; tune in soon again for more updates as the story unravels; we'll be there to cover it all!

Unions. When ran properly, they're great. When mismanaged, they're the scourge of the economy.

Given that BATU are one of the most militant unions out there (have any of you ever dealt with them)...I'm not surprised the auditors "relationship with union representatives has deteriorated".

Why can't we just call in the bloody gardai?? It's obvious money is being flushed down the drain. Why do we need a "committee"? (Doubtless made up of the same selection of people who have formed other committees in recent years)

    I despair.
