Hey, i'm just about to finish a degree in Computer Science and was wondering what the job opportunities are for someone who hates desk jobs?:D

I'm not really looking for an IT salary, as long as i get to travel i'll be happy.
Do NGO's and charity's hire IT people? Or are their any other jobs that would necessitate a lot of traveling?

I am the same as your self with the only difference being that I have finished college. Not too sure if you can find a job without a desk but an out sourcing company would be the way to go (for a lot of travelling) like Accenture they hire you but you are sent to where ever the work is so you could end up anywhere. There is another company that does this as well where one of my friends work but cant remember the name of it ATM but he was telling me about a lot of people get sent all over Europe and he was meant to be going off to London pretty soon.

Companies like HP and IBM hire customer engineers. Within this area you can specialise in complex software areas. You will be on the road a lot of the time visiting customer sites and will spend most of their time working with large server systems doing installation and advanced configuration in areas such as high-availability and parallel computing etc.

Consulting with the likes of Accenture is effectively a desk job intermixed with travelling. You travel between desks, and between that you sit in a hotel room, at a desk, on your laptop.

It depends on what you mean by travelling. If you mean, "Spend time on the road", then you're looking for a field service engineer or something similar.

HP field repair services would require travel.

I'm thinking more along the lines of country to country. Don't like the idea of being stuck in one place but i guess beggars can't be choosers these days:D

Believe it or not Comp Sci isnt really going to help you much in IT at the start.

Only experience will and they usually only send expert consultants internationally.
