    Hi guys

M ps3 has stopped reading discs, it has no ylod or anything and will sometimes load the disc but just freeze up shortly after. Its a 40gb phat long out of warranty. I have tried the various fixes resetting the sstem and rebuilding files etc.
The question is should I get it repaired for €100 or buy a new one. I not certain how reliable the fixes are. Luckily mones not reall an isssue at the moment.
An opinions welcome particularly those who had a laser replaced is it worth doing.

    Thanks

As long as you get the proper laser (not the cloned poor quality ones) the fix then will be as good as any. The only problem I had was there's no way to know on ebay what the quality of the laser will be, the replacement I got didn't work straight outta the box. I sold that PS3 on as I needed it for a present, and the chap who bought it got a good laser & its worked ever since.

I would say replace if you get a decent blu ray drive.

You can do it yourself for a lot cheaper if you are that way inclined !

I'd say get it fixed then trade in for a new one, that's what I did, traded old 60GB for new 320Slim with Move Pack and Free game...only had to spend 180, not bad considering what I got in return.

this happened to me within warrenty and they replaced it straight of so i reckon a repair is a big job.
