I just bought a Dell V13 laptop but the fan is too loud and causes an annoying vibration through keyboard. I was told if I install an SSD card it will quieten it but they cost like €400.

Anyone know of any other way to quieten this laptop?

They proabably mean ssd drive, which would be a replacement for your current harddrive. As yours is probably a sata drive, would be a lot of effort. The fan is on all the time? When you use laptop, are the vents on the bottom/side clear of obstruction? Fan shouldnt be on full blast all the time, if it is, it may be overheating. If it is new, may be an idea to get it checked out under warranty.

The V13 is incredibly thin. Meaning it has very hard time keeping itself cool. An SSD drive will not solve this problem, as i'd bet money on it being the fan making all the noise rather than the drive.

Yeah has to be a noisy fan. After a while the dust builds up and the bearing in the fan starts to get noisy and will eventually start to vibrate, depending on which fan it is you may be able to replace it without too much trouble. Although with a super slim laptop its probably well buried.

Not too much you can really do unless you want things to get very messy.

Download Speedfan to get an accurate look at fan speeds, particularly under load. Will allow us to see if its a defect or not.

Undervolting could be a doable option...will reduce temperatures significantly when under load which should in theory reduce fan speed. Simple to do, google a guide.

Possibly check for a Bios update on Dell support? Commonly fan speeds are adjusted through new releases...for most manufacturers!
